About Us
Mom and Doug Doug is a board certified Physical Therapist, board certified Geriatric specialist and board certified hand therapist.
His philosophy for aging is simple. "The healthier you are, the happier you are."
--Aging is hard enough without having weak legs, poor endurance and wobbly balance.--
I have been frequently asked why I started a website called Eldergym.
Elder and gym are two words that you wouldn't think would go together.
I think the
answer is that we now know that staying active and healthy into our elderly
years is a really really good thing. When we maintain a good diet and
lifestyle, exercise and live in a positive spirit, we are stronger,
happier, more independent and have a higher level of energy.
Eldergym®
was created out of my passion and interest in older adults
and the elderly.
As a
Physical therapist and fitness
professional I work with seniors and the elderly to promote functional
independence
through exercise in the areas of strength, endurance, flexibility and
balance.
I also design and conduct safe, simple and
effective senior
and elderly exercise classes.
I began in my early 20's studying
the relationship between longevity, diet and exercise. I must
admit Jack LaLanne and his predecessors have always been a source of
inspiration.
Though I have been a personal trainer and fitness instructor for over
20 years, my primary job continues to
be as a physical therapist specializing in geriatrics and hand
therapy.
This site is focused on senior and elderly fitness. This site
is
designed to help you with exercise tips, articles and videos.
Take a look at some of my students demonstrating our safe, simple and
effective exercises in the many videos we have online.
Please
feel free to bookmark our site if you are interested in this
area. I am continuing to add new information and videos on the
subject of senior and elderly fitness.
As traffic to
this site increases, we will soon add products including our
own senior and elderly exercise videos along with exercise props that
we use in class. Add your name to the
Newsletter
list
and I'll send you an update when we have more to tell you.
I
would love to hear from you and will answer all emails
as time permits. Email
to
